As of August 27, 2021: Due to a rise in COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations, everyone in Oregon is required to wear a mask in all indoor public spaces and most outdoor settings.
What can I expect before, during and after getting my child vaccinated?
Talk to your child before the visit about what it’s like getting a vaccination shot. If they are sensitive to needles, it can help to talk to them before the appointment about what a vaccine is, why it’s helpful to get, and how it’s given.
Tell your doctor or nurse about any health conditions or allergies your child may have. Comfort your child during the appointment. You and your child will both need to wear masks during the visit.
You will be asked to stay for 15-30 minutes after the shot to make sure your child does not have an allergic reaction, which is very rare.
After your visit, watch for common side-effects in your child, like a sore arm, fever or feeling tired. Your child will need a second shot of the vaccine roughly 3 weeks after their first shot.
