What's an underlying medical condition?

If you’re 18 or older you’re more at risk of getting very sick, having to go to the hospital or even dying from COVID-19 if you have an underlying medical condition like:

  • Cancer

  • Chronic kidney disease

  • Chronic liver disease

  • Chronic lung disease, including COPD, asthma, interstitial lung disease, cystic fibrosis, and pulmonary hypertension

  • Dementia or other neurological conditions

  • Diabetes, types 1 and 2

  • Heart conditions

  • HIV

  • Intellectual or developmental disabilities

  • Mental health conditions

  • Older adults

  • Overweight or obesity

  • Pregnancy

  • Sickle cell anemia

  • Smokers, current or former

  • Solid organ or blood stem cell transplant

  • Stroke

  • Substance use disorder

  • Tuberculosis

  • Weakened immune systems
